I worked as a technical temp for a year out at SouthWest Research Institute
back in the late 80's, microscopic assembly and soldering of 26ga wire of
transducers to measure for faults, fissures and cracks in turbine blades.
We used an organic stripper, but I cant remember the name of it. It was in
a glass bottle. The topper was spring loaded and you laid a finger on it,
and dipped the enameled wire into the ensuing small pool of fluid, and then
wipe it off, immediately dipping it into a bottle of flux. Then under the
microscope to tin the wire and wrap it on the pre-tinned terminals and hit
it with a little heat.
That little dab of organic stripper took the enamel right off and then just
wipe it off.
I remember thinking that it would be a great assistant if I ever wanted to
make my own I.F. coilds or what-not.
Methyl-Ethyl-Keytone would do the job, but ooo-wee... that stuff is nothing
to joke around with.
A wadded up napkin that had some MEK on it, got blown out a bay door. It
had all evaporated, but someone flicked a cigarette butt out, they met, and
that napkin erupted in a flash!
I wouldn't have it in the shack.
