I agree with Jim's idea of carefully heating the old slugs, provided
you can get enough purchase on them to remove them. If not, drilling
is probably better. Either approach has risks: heat can soften and
damage the coil when you try to turn the old piece out, and too much
pressure during drilling can destroy the form too.

Do you have any reference/cross for the slugs, Brian? I've got a SX-42
parts donor carcass buried up in one of the garages that still has all
of its coils. If they're the right size, you're welcome to them.
