1 KW and under transmitters do not sell as well overseas as do the
higher power transmitters. There are too many cheap solid state boxes
that are much less costly to ship. There are still quite a few tube rigs
around for those who like rescuing them otherwise there are a number of
resources on the web for building PDM class E solid state TXs which will
actually do a better job in the AM mode. It is all about what is most
satisfying to the individual ham.
