That has NEVER been the case as it is written.
You had to run a PROOF up to and including
7500 cycles.   Not more than 2 dB down at
7500 cycles.

The transmitters themselves could generally do
MUCH better than that.   I ran a proof on an old
Raytheon 1 kW transmitter and it met FM
specs.

The very original post said   *transmitters*
could do 5 kc.   That has never been the case.

The FCC mandated a cutoff in the region of 
10 kc.   IBOC wanted to be flat clear out to 4500
cycles and then drop like a brick.

And may AM IBOC die and rest in peace.
