The panel is tapped, Don. I don't recall if the plate is or not.

No doubt some of the early models got upgraded when the 4:1 vernier
option came along, as they could be bought separately. As well, I'm
sure some were removed from A-4s and added to other receivers over the
years. I picked up a 75A-2 with a vernier added and have seen numerous
51J examples with it. Also had one A-4 with a standard Dakaware tuning
knob missing the plate. For someone getting one like this, the plate
would be the easier and cheaper choice to waiting for a 4:1 to turn up
at an affordable price.

Can't remember if there's an actual bushing in the center or if the
metal is just curled back forming a lip of sorts, to prevent scoring
the tuning shaft. Works well, though.
