[AMRadio] Globe Champ 350

I should add that I think Dad also re-capped the HQ-170 as well. He
performed some mods to it that are obvious: it has a BNC IF output
port on it, and he has changed the antenna inputs for both the HF and
VHF (6 m) antennas to be high-quality SO-239s. I remember that the 6
m antenna port was for 300 ohm twin lead. If my memory is right, that
also means that he probably added an impedance transformer inside
somewhere for the 6 m antenna port. He also added a 1/8" phone plug
to the speaker output.

It's probably wise advice to add an outboard power source for the
filament supply -- that alone is a significant load. He has 3B28's as
the HV rectifiers, not the old 866As. I loved the beautiful blue from
the 866As, but he kept having problems with them flashing over and
becoming poisoned, so he switched to the 3B28s and had no further problems.

I know that he made other mods to the Globe: I think he changed a
bias circuit in it, possibly the scree supply, and disabled the "SSB"
position of the mode switch, which changed the amd made the a linear
amplifier for use with a DSB exciter made by WRL. So, it's not
original. But, it had been his since new (bought in 1959 for the
princely sum of $450 as a kit) and it was the rig I operated through
about 1980 or so. So, it's certainly precious to me!
