Hi Al!

Could be lots of things:

1) Weak, dried out electrolytics making the decoupling ineffective 
between audio stages. Or some other unwanted audio feedback path has 
developed.

2) Transmitter section is being keyed without muting the receiver 
somehow (not being specifically familiar with the G50, I don't know if 
this is even possible with that particular radio).

3) Plenty of other possibilities that haven't occurred to me yet (but I 
know they're there!).
