Zeke,

Someway you are either getting feedback from the audio into the output 
stage OR the output audio is going into oscillation.

Get an O'scope and start hunting through the circuit path.  You'll most 
likely find WAY out of tolerance components.

The other possibility is a bad set of T/R relay contacts.
