Bob,
I am a cardiologist and long term ham. I would recommend he speak to the cardiologist monitoring him. Each patient has specific risks that can't be generalized.

Does anyone in the group know of anybody that operates on AM with a Pace
Maker. I have a buddy whose xyl just got a pacemaker ... The Dr said not
more than 100 Watts and at least 20 feet away... Does anyone know the truth
