Being one of the guys who used to go to John's house, have met his daughter,
et al, I'm not so sure that part of that isn't true, Don.

Before John was put in the 'home', his wife of many years, Bobbi, passed away
from a heart attack.  John was at the house, with daughter Vivian for 2 years,
before she put him (with sound mind) in the home.

The home wasn't some institutional building, it was actually a house, with 3
other
occupants, and a nurse, to tend to their needs.

John/WA5BXO, Yogi/KC5MIP, Jeff/N5ECP, Otis/K5SWK, Roy/W5MRY, Alton/W5FAP
and Jeff/W5OMR went to see John in early December, 1999.  For the most part,
John was great spirits, and had a great moment of lucidity, where he recognized
everyone's face, and called them by name.  He had been there in the home for a
year plus
at that time.

There is nothing that John B. Mohn (son of John L. Mohn) would like more, than
to have his father back.  He's said as much, personally and direct to me.

Praise goes to John B. "Tiger" Mohn, a Marine in the special forces of the Green
Beret,
currently dispatched to Afghanistan to do his job ... he's mighty handy with a
weapon.

To your comments, Don:
If anyone has ever had the privilege of being at John/W5MEU's house, they will
no
doubtedly remember the vast library in the atrium, on subjects ranging from
Gemology to UFO's.

His daughter, and her husband (self-acclaimed "pastor" of his own religion)
*burned*
the entire library, because (according to her) "there's already enough of this
filthy
trash in the world."

Last I heard, his daughter, and her husband, are looking to start some kind of
religious
'commune' there, at John's house.  According to Tiger, it's already started.

I'm sure I'm probably over-cautious, or maybe it's just the fact that I just
can't stand the
thought of what I used to call "Radio Part Heaven" turned to another
"Jonestown", but it just
'feels' to me that 'things ain't right'.

On a positive note, John's BC-610"E" is safe in the hands of W5OMR, and is still
on
the air, in San Antonio, TX.  Coupled with the Hallicrafter R-274"D"(SX-73) make
for
pretty much the main-stay of John/W5MEU's Ham Radio operations when he was in
the
U.S. Army Signal Corps, at the Radio shack, at Kelly Air Force Base, in San
Antonio.

If it weren't for John/W5MEU, I wouldn't have my 250TH rig.  John did some tall
talking
to Dan/W5BU (now also SK) to have him part with a rig that Dan's friend built,
in the mid
1950's, out of ARRL Handbooks.   A pair of 250TH's with a double-output,
true-life Faraday
Shielded-link, and double-input, link coupled grid-input.

John is the reason MANY of us are on AM, today, because the Radio collectors
creed is:

"It's better to have and not want,
than to want, and not have."

Bob/W5PYT, Dan/W5BU, Koby/K5MZH, Fred/W5JKD and others now have the privilege of
being joined in round-table with none other than John L. Mohn/W5MEU who is, I'm
sure, making
some of the sweetest "Angel Music" around.
