[AMRadio] Apache AM mode alignment steps ??

Hi Doug,

I would think that a simple way to adjust the audio gain (behind the key jack) would be to crank up the front panel control until clipping is readily seen, Then adjust the audio gain (behind the key jack) so that you just get 100% modulation. You should be able to do that with voice or a tone. Be sure that you have enough gain on the front panel control to make the clipper work. Then when you back off the front panel control you can run it just below the clipping level or up a little so you have some clipping and you will never go over 100%.

Can anyone list a cheat sheet that I could put in my manual and then use in adjusting the audio properly with my oscilloscope and audio generator ? Is a simple audio sine wave in the voice frequency range sufficient? Would you sample high or low ? I once built (and may build again) a little 5 or 6 tube speech compressor out of a 60's QST and remember that it worked extraordinarily well with the SB10 and later with my Marauder. I don't remember using it on AM much because the move at the time was to suppressed carrier operation. Now that I use the Apache once again and really enjoying the AM envelope, am I correct in assuming that adjusted to a sort of alignment procedure on the bench, any problems I might have would be relative to the speech passband or my mic alone?
