ARC Weekly 2M Net
We certainly have an active net last night with 15 participants, a remarkable achievement given the our entry into a Holiday weekend. Signals from all quarters were exceptionally clear and there were some references to VHF contacts recently being made from more than 100 miles out!
Many topics were discussed during the net including the awesomeness of Ed McDonald’s Rhubarb Pie which he delivered to Field Day on Sunday morning. Hands-down, the best Rhubarb pie I’ve ever eaten. Not too tart, not over sugared and all with a hint of ginger. Well Done Ed! You are the Rhubarb King!
On a more professional note, we have a request from Erik (KC3QQD) over in Prince Frederick to participate in their annual Tall Tower Test. This test uses two VHF antennas mounted at two different elevations on the local water tower as the part of their test so see how far out from the antenna they can be heard on their Simplex transmission. The test is scheduled for 07 July 2026 from 1930-2030 on 146.580 Simplex. If you can hear them, please respond with your contact info and your location. If you are on a lower power radio and can’t reach back to them , you can email Erik (emtpej at comcast.net) and relay where you heard his signal at. Thanks for supporting.
We were also notified by DC Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency (DC HSEMA) that in support of the July 4th celebrations, they would be standing up their EOC for this declared National Special Security Event (NSSE). As we have done in the past, we will support their activation remotely as we are the largest and best equipped Amateur Radio organization in proximity to DC. Stex Fonda, K4IEW, ARES EC is the Club lead for this activity and will likely be looking for a few good men and women to support the “monitor and respond” task for the nine hour requested support window. Please coordinate with Stex if you can participate from 1500-2400 tomorrow, 04 July. The Alexandria EOC will conduct a “limited” activation without amateur radio support however, should activities escalate, a full activation with amateur radio support would follow.
Thanks for your continued participation in our events and activities.
