Matt,
My name is Rick and I'm the American Radio Relay League (ARRL)
Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) Emergency Coordinator (EC) for
Alexandria. The Alexandria Radio Club does offer classes twice a year and
they are in the middle to near the end of a class now. Testing I think is
on Dec 8th, but your welcome to stop in the last few classes and you may
with your background pass the Tech and or General class with a little bit of
self study. The Tech license is NO CODE and allows operation on VHF and UP.
The General Class requires 5 WPM Morse code, which is not hard to learn.
I've copied this back to the group and will copy KA4GFY Rich and he can fill
you in more on the classes.
The classes meet on Wednesdays at 7PM and the club meets on the
second Friday of each month at 7:30PM, The next club meeting is the annual
dinner. The next regular meeting will be in January. The class and
meetings are held at the Alexandria Fire Training Center behind the Nanny J.
Lee Center just north of the beltway and west of U.S. 1.
Feel free to call me for more information.
73 (Best Wishes)
Rick

Subject: [Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Introduction
Hello, my name is Matt. I am relatively new to Alexandria, having moved
here in June 2004 after finishing a M.S. in Electrical Engineering, with an
emphasis in electromagnetics and vacuum electronics.
I have wanted to become involved in amateur radio for a long time, but am
finally going to do it. I am interested in joining you club, becoming
licensed, and obtaining equipment. In particular, I am interested in
emergency preparedness, shortwave communications, CW, and antenna design. I
checked out your website and look forward to meeting all of you, and
participating in your events.'
Matt
