Hi Ed,
It's good to hear the hamfest was a success, even with the lower turnout this year. It's always a challenge getting people to events in Alaska. The small population makes it difficult, and the weather never helps. In the summer everyone is traveling all over, whereas in the winter no one wants to travel.
Maybe getting the various clubs to coordinate on events might help with participation? Each of the Alaska clubs are very guarded of their "turf", but that doesn't mean they can't cooperate on fun radio events. I've never understood why there isn't more multi-club cooperation up here. Too much politics and personalities I guess.
The Support Your Parks weekend went well. I managed to activate three locations, one of which encompassed three parks. That was a lot of fun and should qualify for the "Warthog" POTA Rover award. I also managed to get in about 15 or 20 VHF/UHF contacts with local hams. That saved my bacon on Friday night and Saturday morning when the HF bands were not cooperating.

It was a rainy day so maybe had some influence. 2020 there was no Hamfest and 2021 it was held outdoors; Covis concerns affected those two years a lot. Mike-KL5PJ (new ham on peninsula) won the HT radio and bought the antenna from the winner. He has already installed it to use with 60w 2m base radio (overheard KL7ZK and him chatting on 146.52 during the install). Exam session had four sit for exams with one passing. Kent-KL5T officiated and can give more details. 73, Ed - KL7UW On 7/15/2023 6:16 AM, Ed Cole wrote: > > There will be NO Net, today. > > Please come to the Kenai Peninsula Hamfest: > At the Kenai American Legion Hall > 10:00am until 4:00pm > > Info & Directions: https://www.kl7uw.com/Hamfest2023.htm > > Ham Radio Swap Meet > Ham Radio License exams (Walk-In's accepted) > Door Prizes and five Grand Prizes > > Net will resume July 22 > > 73, Ed - KL7UW ______________________________________________________________ ak-vhf mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/ak-vhf Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:ak-vhf at mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
