Jim was 94 years old but I remember his call. Seems like he used to check in on our 3.8 morning SSB breakfast gathering with me, W5HJA, W5TIZ, W5FUW, W5IRG and couple of guys from Hazen and Ed Moory in Dewitt and one guy from Texas.. Always a lot of yaking back then in the 1958-65 timeframe on our frequency which we did switch a couple of times due to ‘nets’ that kept bothering us; 3947 sounds familiar and 3918..

I do not recall Jim being an ADXA member but could have been in the late 69-71 period when record keeping was erratic and local 2m FM transceivers kept a few guys in touch in the Little Rock area. Then the “restart” of ADXA in 1973… maybe someone has those early records starting in ‘72. My records stopped in about 1970 when I started medical practice and went to KS4 Swan Island. Jim would have been only 45 in 1972 on our “restart”. Not sure of his DXCC totals.
TU for info on his passing, Joel.

Subject: [ADXA] Jim Shaver, W5LCI SK

I am saddened to report that long time Big Gun DX'er Jim Shaver, W5LCI, became SK tonight.
Jim lived in Wynne and at one time was the longest serving representative in the Arkansas House of Representatives. Jim and my mother graduated from Wynne High School together and then both attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville. Her prompting me to obtain a license came from her knowledge of Jim being a radio amateur.
I can't recall if Jim was ever an ADXA member. San, Rick, Dennis or some others may know. I just remember his high DXCC number, his 20 meter Telrex beam and nice shack up stairs at his home in Wynne.
