Joel, I am pretty sure Jim was a member – I remember our QSO’s and what a nice guy he was.

I’ll try my old records of members to see if I can confirm his membership. We got up to almost 100 members at one point when we would have our Sunday night net to report all of our DX for the week. W4’s, and W9’s in particular would join the net and subsequently, many became members. The last year I was president of ADXA, I was invited to the W9DXCC meeting one year to speak - Rick and Holly also were there. Rick was the incoming president of ADXA.

Subject: [ADXA] Jim Shaver, W5LCI SK

I am saddened to report that long time Big Gun DX'er Jim Shaver, W5LCI, became SK tonight.

Jim lived in Wynne and at one time was the longest serving representative in the Arkansas House of Representatives. Jim and my mother graduated from Wynne High School together and then both attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) in Batesville. Her prompting me to obtain a license came from her knowledge of Jim being a radio amateur.

I can't recall if Jim was ever an ADXA member. San, Rick, Dennis or some others may know. I just remember his high DXCC number, his 20 meter Telrex beam and nice shack up stairs at his home in Wynne.
