[50mhz] RFI and car computer

John, ANY car in the last 20 yrs or so has a CPU and an EPROM or EEPROM that
sets engine performance, etc. My 89 S10 Blazer did and it DID NOT like 20mtr
SSB (I think the inside was a good cavity resonator for that band...none of
the other bands had problems but any signal on 20 out of the mobile would
KILL the engine dead in its tracks!)
35watts on 6 should NOT cause any issues if you mount the antenna in proper
place that doesn't overload the CPU (The engine CPU box is USUALLY on the
right side of the passenger compartment next to the firewall.) I run 100w
6FM in my 99 Blazer with a cowl mounted antenna on the DRIVER or left side
of the hood...never any problems!

Subject: [50mhz] RFI and car computer
We just bought a new (to us) 2007 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan. The
salesman went over the fact that the van has a computer in it a couple of
times. Has anyone had problems with their rig affecting the on-board
vehicle computer? This is not the on-star or GPS computer, just the run
which runs the vehicle. I would be mainly going mobile on 6m at around 35
watts or so on SSB and CW.
