John,
I am now looking for recommendations from someone stateside for Yaesu
repair.
Thank You John for the latest reply. My frustration level is pretty
high. I was trying to work TO2TT today for an all time new one. I was
able to get the radio to stop tuning down yesterday. I do not know what
I did that caused this. The radio had done pretty well during the 30
minutes I used it on 80m before my sunrise. I could hear the TO2 on
18Mhz, a friend about 15 miles from here worked them. I gave on call
and the radio started tuning down in frequency about 5 seconds later. I
have been unable to get it to stop. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
I will borrow a radio from a good friend tomorrow, but I would like to
get this one repaired and back before CQWW CW (my favorite contest).
So if anyone has recommendations for a good place to get this one fixed
I will send it off.
Thanks,
Stephen Hawkins NG0G

After going through all of the normal checks with the tuning switches on the ring and making sure that the display invertor wires were positioned right, the rig would suddenly start tuning down in frequency all by itself. I gave up in the end and sent it back to Yaesu UK and after a lot of investigation, they found it to be a small voltage regulator which is located on the drop down front panel PCB.

>>> My Yaesu FT-1000MP MKv Field started tuning down in frequency all by itself, and despite power cycling and full microprocessor resets, I could not make it stop. Nearly 4 hours of experimenting, troubleshooting, profuse sweating, thinking, more experimenting I got it to stop. I believe that the switch that engages the narrow CW filter, or the relay that it controls was stuck in the "held down" position, even though the switch looked to be in the proper position.

I finally decided that the only thing left was some front panel switch in the stuck on position that was causing the microprocessor to do wacky things. Actuating every switch repeatedly got it to stop temporarily. Extensive experimentation narrowed it down to one switch, the CW filter switch. I operate about 95% CW so this switch rarely gets turned off. After I finally got it to stop tuning and stay stopped, I experienced an odd situation where the radio acted as if squelch was turned on in CW mode. I could hear a signal when someone was sending, but the second they stopped all sound in the headphones stopped. Complete silence as if the audio was squelched. Additional exercising of this switch seems to have fixed this.....for about an hour and a half.
