Chen is correct -- the 4 pin Din is the one that deals with FSK, not the 5
pin. I just used the one that Jurgen had supplied. Chen's information about
the Tigertronics options is good advice and he makes a very important point
-- the Tigertronics unit does NOT provide for FSK operation of the FT1000MP.

If you want to use the FSK of the FT1000MP you will need to get the FSK line
control from one of the control lines of a COM port. MMTTY allows you to
specify the source of the PTT line and the FSK line if you get them from a
COM port [selected with MMTTY]. If the narrow filters [500 Hz, 250 Hz] are
not going to be used, the AFSK method using the USB SL-1 with pre-fabricated
cables and a pre-wired DIP jumper module certainly makes the most sense.

******* The paragraph below is speculation on my part -- I have not tested
it *************

I have a hunch that one could connect the USB SL-1 to the AFSK DIN plug and
then fabricate a cable that would connect a COM port control line to the
SHIFT of the FSK Port [4 pin DIN]. The PTT lines of the DIN 5 and the DIN 4
are connected internally. I believe the AF OUT pins of the DIN 5 and DIN 4
are also connected internally. If FSK is selected as the MODE I believe the
DIN 5 AF INPUT is blocked from modulating the transmitted carrier but the
DIN 5 PTT line would still be active. This would allow one to have the DIN 5
cable connected all the time and the DIN 4 cable that has the SHIFT line to
a COM Port control line to be connected all the time. The SL-1 could be
sending AFSK RTTY but the modulation would not reach the carrier. The DIN 4
FSK line would be active and it would FM modulate the carrier to provide
FSK. The only thing that would change would be which mode you selected on
the FT1000MP and the software program settings used for RTTY as opposed to
the ones used for PSK. On RECEIVE the AF OUT signal should be present at
both the AFSK jack and the FSK jack so the software/SL-1 combination would
handle the AF OUT audio the same in both cases.
