[1000mp] Intermittent return to RX, no RX

First thing that comes to my mind is a sticky PTT switch or T/R relay.  What
happens using the MOX switch on the front of the rig, or VOX?

A few years ago, the T/R relay in my MkV stop working (no RX) and I traced
it to one of the FETs controlling it.  I replaced the FET which fixed it. In
an intermittent situation like yours, I think bad FET isn't very likely.
