[1000mp] Question about average output PWR on a FT1000mp mark V field

The ALC reading, with the mic gain and processing controls fully 
clockwise and using a whistle, will move four dots beyond the end of the 
ALC scale, so I don't think yours is too far off.

The audio will be plenty distorted with readings just beyond the end of 
the scale, depending on how the the "proc" and "mic" are set. Your 
TS-850 was a different radio, that was metered differently. Always 
adjust your audio by listening to the monitor or listening to yourself 
in a different receiver.

What kind of wattmeter are you using? Perhaps you are not using a PEP 
reading meter, or you are not using one with fast enough PEP?
