Why do we contest?

Yes, there's that, particularly in a serious effort. But for many of us, not
interested (or not available ) in a serious effort, there's the sheer
pleasure of working operators with consummate skill..."reading their minds",
collaborating in completing a tough Q, and basically getting it right on
both ends with the ultimate in efficient transfer of information. A few of
those Qs in a row are sufficient for those of us who could be criticized as
"contest dilettantes". And without us non-serious guys, the real competitors
would rapidly milk the bands dry. The thrill for either kind of op is a
strong function of equipment performance (along with all the other stuff).

Besides, I gotta save some adrenaline for my hockey game at 2200Z. Anyone
wanna compare skates and sticks? Yeah, I know...wrong reflector...
