[1000mp] The 100-pound gorilla

Hello Yaesu Fans:
Personally, I like the built in EQ curves in the Mark V, and I prefer the
flat response curve best overall. The newer radios will continue to offer
the digital EQ, but will allow customization of the response. The Mark V as
you know offers several choices.
The real missing ingredient I feel has always been noise gating for the
transmit audio input. I control the background noise with an outboard noise
gate, which needs to be driven by a pre-amp. This permits not only noise
free transmissions, but greatly improves the overall VOX function as well.
I wonder if Yaesu has incorporated gating in the new radio, at the digital
level? My analog system works well, but it would be even better built in,
and most modern transmitters, even cell phones, incorporate noise reduction
in the audio DSP. It would be convenient to kill all the blower noises from
the amp, radio, power supplies, and the computers.
It would be nice to have it in the new radios.
Happy DXing and 73,
Mike Schatzberg
