Gary:

I know you are a first class CW op so I am pleased to hear it is not my
imagination. My ICOM-756 ProII has much better QSK I am afraid.

Les, KL7J sent me some ideas on adjustments to Menus 7-1, 7-2 and 7-4. I
tried those but they did not solve 'my' problem.

After trying those I changed to VOX controlled CW and no keyer -- just a key
closure. There is a very distinct "pop" as the receiver comes back on. I set
the voice delay to be quite long and long after the keying has ended (a
couple of seconds) the pop is heard. I am guessing that it might be some
pulse from an internal relay that is getting into the audio chain when the
transceiver switches from TX to RX.

I am surprised that this has not surfaced in the reflector stuff I have been
reading since about 2000. Maybe it was discussed (and resolved I hope) at an
earlier time.

If anyone had any ideas I would certainly like to hear them --- especially
before I start tracing those very tiny schematic diagrams. After having
installed the key click mod prior to ARRL SS CW it was sad not to be able to
really operate QSK without feeling I would damage my ears. Many of the
really good ops I worked were already sending stuff by the time the radio
had switched back on when I allowed the computer to control the TX-RX
timing.

I wonder if George, W2VJN, or Tom, K8JI, have dealt with this in FT1000's or
FT1000MP's.

Tod, KØTO
