Hello Pete,
Lou W7HV did this suggestion and I think it is a very good way to do the mod
directly on the circuit board. Of course I was very careful to prevent short
circuits between the mod and the PCB or the chassis of the Mark-V.
It really was very easy to remove the SMD resistor with the Weller solder
station and thin de-soldering wire (we call it litze). It is also possible
to do it without de-soldering wire, but use a soldering pin with about the
same width as the SMD. You will see that within a few seconds the SMD will
be released and sticks to you soldering pin.
The toughest thing IMHO was to re-install the PA-unit. These tiny wires and
to fasten the two screws made me say words I barely use... My wife asked me
if something was wrong, HI!
