Every FT-1000 already has the answer to this problem: the DVS-2 port.
G4AXX has made a very nice box to interface a PC to the DVS-2 port:

The PC side of the interface plugs into the sound card, and also into
the COM port that controls the rig. It should work with any contest
software that uses the "normal" COM-port output pins for PTT and CW
keying.
The rig side of the interface plugs into the CAT port and key jack
(which work as normal) and the DVS-2 port. The interface switches the
control lines on the DVS-2 connector, so it can use the audio routeing
facilities built into the FT-1000.
Your mic stays in the front of the radio, where it's meant to be. When
the sound card is playing recorded audio, the mic is dead so you can
safely cough, sneeze and slurp coffee. To record to the sound card, just
flip the REC switch on the interface, press the PTT and talk - and the
radio won't transmit. If you want, you can also stream the received
audio to the sound card for recording - automatically interrupted when
you press the PTT.
