Hi Carl,

It sounds to me as if the start-up circuit in the 2.5 kVA switching PSU
module inside the VP-1000 cabinet has failed. The PSU module is an OEM part,
and there is no schematic for it in the Quadra service manual. All I can
suggest, if you wish to attempt repairs yourself, is to determine the name
of the manufacturer of the module, the model number etc., and try to contact
the vendor.

I tried Vertex Standard's main number (714) 827-7600 a few minutes ago, and
it is working. You may wish to call them and speak to Chip Margelli; as far
as I recall, Chip is fairly high up in the Amateur Sales organisation. I am
confident that he will be quite concerned about unsatisfactory product
support.

My Quadra was purchased in November 1998, and pre-dates the Vertex Standard
merger. I drive it with an Icom IC-756Pro2., and run it off 240V mains at
1kW output. It has been running flawlessly since I purchased it.

Failing all else, an e-mail (or better still a letter) to the Managing
Director of Vertex Standard Japan, cc. the President of Yaesu USA, will get
a few people's attention.
