You're right, Adam --
I just retried the number, and it works. The helpful technician told me
three key things:
1. The telephone system was out all morning;
2. They are way behind in answering the eMail backlog; and
3. I probably don't want to attempt taking the PSU apart, no matter how
skilled I might think I am! The outside cover is easy, it's the one inside
that's the problem. Sure, I'll get it apart, but I may never get it back
together properly.
He agrees that it might be the start-up circuit, but no way of telling, and
no easy fix.
Unfortunately, as you probably know, the Quadra Service Manual is pretty
lacking in PSU information. I wonder how you know there "is" a start-up
circuit?
When I get this resolved, I've got a 15 amp industrial strength line filter
sitting here that I'll use. Not sure yet if it was a component failure or a
line spike.
So folks, Yaesu is still around, and there really are people at the other
end of the line.
Looks like a big Hmmmm... to me! I should have read the sign over my desk:
Patience, Patience, Patience.
You have a nice FT-1000 web site, by the way. Very helpful.

Hi Carl,
It sounds to me as if the start-up circuit in the 2.5 kVA switching PSU
module inside the VP-1000 cabinet has failed.

Hope this helps.
