[1000mp] Quadra question

I just got a used Quadra, VL-1000 at a local hamfest.
Just put it on air today.

1st qso was just 1000-MP at 50 watts with Quad not in OPERATE. Good report 
from a LY station.

2nd qso was 1000-MP at 50 watts and Quad in OPERATE. Good report from 9A1A. 
when I spoke in mic sounded like a fan in Quad started up or increased in 
speed, kinda startled me. Anything to worry about ? The noise seemed more than a 
lil distracting. Could I be hearing that noise at all ?

3rd qso not made yet. Will wait fer an answer from you all-knowing guys.
