The display on my rig went dead again on August 31, 2002. Any =
suggestions on how to repair this problem before I return the rig a =
second time to Yaesu?

I remember reading a previous thread in this discussion group about =
bypassing the display's thermal fuse to fix this problem. Is this a =
good idea? Any details? Other suggested fixes?

My rig is a Yaesu Mark-V FT-1000MP (Serial No. 1C220001). For more =
details regarding this problem, read on. =20

The display failure occurred after the rig had been on for about 1 hour. =
 I turned the rig on at about 15:45 EDST. I logged onto a net at 17:00. =
 Everything was working fine. Suddenly, at 17:15, the display just went =
blank. =20

 I tried the following trouble-shooting approaches to revive the display =
but none worked:

  1.. Power off/power on;
  2.. Power off/remove AC cord from wall/wait 20 minutes/power on;
  3.. Power on reset menu settings via power off/[29(0)]key+Power On;
  4.. Power on reset memories via power off/[Sub(ce)]key+[Ent]key+Power =
On; and
  5.. Power on CPU master reset via power =
off/[29(0)]key+[Sub(ce)]key+[Ent]key+Power On.
The display failure on August 31 was the second one for my rig. The =
first display failure occurred on March 15, 2002. Since it was still =
under warranty, I returned it to Amateur Electronic Supply (AES). AES =
shipped it to Yaesu in California for repairs. Yaesu repaired it and I =
received it back on April 26, 2002. Yaesu fixed it by replacing a =
"thermal fuse" for the display unit.
