Hello Steve,
Actually it is quiet easy.
Yaesu gave most of the connectors different colours and colournames on the
board. So if you de-attach the connectors it is very easy to find the right
contra-connector (socket) back again. This really is a good job of Yaesu! In
the 1000D this is very different...
To lift the IF-board of the Mark V you have to remove a coaxial cable too.
Don't pull on the cable, but use longnose pliers and very slowly pull (while
turning a little bit) the male connector from the female connector (socket)
on the IF-board.
Then loosen the two flatcables. Never pull at the cables but slowly and
gently pull at both sides of the connector (side by side, very gently).
Look which connectors have to be removed to lift the IF-board. Of course you
may loosen all the connectors to remove the entire board.
There are 2-pin connectors which have a latching arrangement. With a very
small screwdriver you can pry open one side of the connector at the side
towards the IF-board. Then use longnose pliers again to remove the connector
from the socket.
Then loosen all the screws. Don't loosen the screws at the beginning!!
Here is a warning I read in an Inrad instruction:
"Note: While working on the IF-board, extreme care should be used to avoid
turning any of the adjustments pots. If pots get turned, alignment must be
performed on the radio as described in the service manual."
Always use a good surface, covered with soft material not to damage your
equipment. Watch the clothes and shoes you are wearing to prevent statics!!
I always use an anti-static wristband connected to the ground of the rig.
Take your time, don't be in a hurry and use good lightsources. Always use
good tools when working with your expensive equipment.
De-solder the filter(s). Use the right temperature and good tools; your Mark
V is worth it.
Install the new filter(s).
Fasten the screws again. Then the connectors. At all times be careful not to
turn any of the adjustments!
That's all! Is this easy or is this not easy?
Good luck and 73!
Hans Remeeus.
