Actually, there is a little more to the flat cables.  On the socket, there is a clamping 
ring that needs to be gently pried up.  This is an easy task with your fingernail or 
even a small flat blade screw-driver.  One the clamp has been released, the flat 
cable comes right out of the socket with very little effort.

To replace the flat cable, just reverse the procedure.  Making sure that the flat cable 
is properly seated in the connector, merely push the clamping ring down on the 
socket.  This puts a little "squeeze" on the ribbon cable, keeping it in place.
