As has already been observed, whereas a large group of folks in front of
the Yaesu booth isn't likely to attract much attention, a letter writing
campaign might possibly have an impact.
I was ready to buy a Mark V last week. I had a list of retailers that I
was going to call and then I asked myself if I really wanted to take the
chance of getting one of the current crop of rigs that are having
failures and then suffer the annoyance and inconveniences associated
with the current state of Yaesu service. Being a thoughtful person, I
answered myself with a quiet "NO!" For all of you lucky folks out there
who have Mark Vs and have never had a problem, I can only say that I'm
jealous. For all of you unlucky folks out there who have recently been
posting about your difficulties with the Mark V, I can only say that I
sympathize but I don't plan to join you.
Unless and until Yaesu gets its act together, I would rather take my
chances with a new Ten Tec Orion. An advanced design radio like that
is likely to have some problems, too. However, I've always been
impressed with the quality and speed of Ten Tec service and, at the
moment, I would rather take my chances with them than Yaesu.
