Its probably the hiss caused by the audio amplifier.
Its loud enough on my Mark V to make the headphone
jacks on the SP-8 useless. I can use the headphone
jacks on the rig itself though since the audio level
is attenuated there. All MP's/Mark V's have it to
some extent. It has a lot to do with component
tolerances and a persons own hearing ability. Some
use the audio line out on the back of the rig and a
external amplifier to get around this problem. The
audio amplifier hiss is fixed and doesn't increase
with the AF gain pot. I plan on using a resistive
L pad in the SP-8 and running the AF gain a little
more. The same could be done to the internal
speaker.

Hi group,
I have purchased a FT1000MP and have noticed there is a background
noise/hiss. Can someone tell me if this is the hiss that is rectified with
the Inrad 75mhz IF amp mod. Also those who have installed the mod to there
radio, is there that much of a difference and did it fix the hiss.
Thanks Anthony vk2new.
