[1000mp] MP Mk 5 Field

I have read a lot of stuff here about the problems folks have had with the
Mk 5. I just hope that I am not speaking too soon here!

I brought back a Mk5 Field from Dayton. I got it from AES at an amazing
$1699, which was just too good a price to pass up. It now sits in my SO2R
set up alongside my original MP.

I have fitted some IRC filters to the Field and have more on order. I can
only say I am delighted with it. Initially, I was disappointed at the
reduced flexibility filter selection scheme but in practice this has so far
not been any problem at all.

I find the Field receiver quieter than the original MP but otherwise very
similar. I have always been happy with the MP rx........at least since I
fitted the IRC gain redistribution and hiss reduction mod. It doesn't look
like I need this mod for the Field.

Sidetone on the Field is much less clicky than the earlier MP but is still
nowhere near as clean as a Kenwood sidetone.

I compared both for tx key clicks and could not tell them apart, so no
improvements there.

I currently have no other criticism of either radio and if the Field doesn't
go west on me, I am sure I will remain very satisfied with my new
acquisition for a long time to come.
