[1000mp] noise increase in GEN mode

Just a theory...

Within the ham bands, there are probably additional tuned circuits in the
front end, if for nothing else, to reduce wideband noise and perhaps
desensing from strong and/or out-of band signals.  Once you tune outside an
amateur band, these circuits are switched out, making the front end more
broad banded/more open to noise.

I "just" have the original 'MP (Sept, 2000).  I'll go down and try it out.
I'd imagine that mine does the same thing.  Interesting.
