[1000mp] FT1000MP Key Clicks on first element DO Matter

Since I may have started this MP first-dit discussion, I"ll go with Barry --
my money is on the MP being the culprit.
I hope some talented EE out there will take the challenge to drag out the
schematics and an oscilloscope and try to invent a proper solution to the
keying wave shape problem in the MP. I read the comment in Tom, W8JI's key
click mod, that he thought his mod was already bordering on being too
difficult. But I, for one, would have been quite willing to spend more time
on the mod, or perhaps have a more complicated circuit, to have a
first-class keying waveform of which I could feel proud on the air. A lot
of the work is just in getting ready to do the mod -- opening the MP,
removing connectors and boards, etc. But I just don't have the equipment,
or maybe the energy, to dig into the MP circuit diagrams and try to invent
the golden fix. And if the golden fix came from a commercial company (e.g.
Inrad), I'll bet quite a few hams would gladly fork out a few bux for such a
fix.
NOTE: This message is in no way intended as a dig at either Inrad's or
W8JI's key click mods. I haven't tried the Inrad mod, but I incorporated
W8JI's, and think what it did was a very good thing, and I will leave it in
my rig. I just wish there was a mod that went all the way and produced a
crisp, clean waveform on each and every dit. With this, the otherwise
fabulous MP might not be the subject of so much discussion of being a poor
CW neighbor on the bands. :)
73, and HNY to all,
Tom / W7GT
