You are ever so right about the loooooooooooong warmup time on the alpha.
that has to be the longest 2.5 minutes in the world. that is the only
complaint I guess I have about the alpha.

in the same vein......i was trying to work the ET3PMW on 160. switching
to a loop for rx. called him, switched to the loop, heard him answer me
and then.............in my excitement, I forgot to switch back to my
inverted L.
Being on the loop cause the alpha to TRIP OFF THE LINE for 2.5 minutes.
The ET3 called me 2 more times and moved on to another station. He could
not hear me with only 100 watts. Was another week before he was strong
enuff
to copy at this qth. I did get him but it was the day before he was
scheduled to leave. Whew.....

Of course it was "operator malfunction" that i didn't switch it back but I
think
there should be a "shorter" recovery period or an over-ride.

Not enough to make me look for a different amp however. My alpha 99 is
brand new, bout 2 months old. Still have an L4B I could use but of course
it does not go on the warc bands.

c u in the pileups
