Dear Chet:
Well said and ouch!
However, I thought that one could setup the Mk V so that one would
receive on the "RX antenna" while, selectively, transmitting on either A
or B, but not both. There are three antenna connections on the back of
the radio. I too am contemplating putting a rotateable, loop receiving
antenna wayyyy back in the antenna field to improve SNR on receive. The
major problem out in the flat country where I am is the precip. noise.
Arc discharges right into an antenna make it very hard to hear anything.
The other two things I would improve on the Alpha 99 are the use of
a one minute turn-off-delay on at least one of the fans and a clear
description of the tune up procedure. [Mind, once one has found the
"sweet spot" for each band, retuning is quick and easy]
Have I misunderstood the antenna switches?
73 Mac N8TT
P.S. My biggest problem is that many DX stations hear N6TT!!! They
just are not used to an upper Midwest accent.
