I like having the "limit" on 10.1 MHz. It may well have made a
difference last night working a couple of African stations. (with Mk
V).
The vibration that is transmitted from the Mk V's fan to its knob is
distracting. When driving an Alpha (about 50 watts) the fan in the Mk V
hardly ever comes on. Not so when working 10.1 MHz.
There have been at least two times when I have managed to work a new
one with 200 watts in a pile up before the (very long) warm up of the
Alpha brought the amp on line. In one case, the rare station worked one
more station after he worked me and folded up. That is when the extra 3
db may well have made a difference.
In the next reincarnation, I might look with favor on an amp with
the 3cx1200 because the Mk V has the power to drive it and the tube has
a very short warm-up time.
... just some ramblings... 73 Mac N8TT
