[1000mp] Warranty Service -- my experience

Hello:

I have to echo the comments here. I have a Mark V that I received in Sept.
2001. It is now back at their shop for the THIRD time. They logged it in
on April 19th and it has yet to be assigned a tech. I just got off the
phone with the afore mentioned young lady - yep, got a chip on her
shoulder - big time ! I may not be seeing this rig for 6 weeks - even at
the priority status of 're-service'. I'm pretty fed up with it all - I love
the radio when it works. This time the HI SWR warning came on with no
warning. I checked it with a dummy load and it was still there - nothing
left to do but send it back. I have a FT-8500 that lost the LCD backlight -
I would love to know where ELSE to send it for non-warranty repair. If I
send it to Yaesu, it will be like sending it into a black hole ! For me,
I'm going to give the Ten-tec Orion and the Pro II hard looks after Dayton -
and then decide whether to sell the Mark V after I receive it.

I was told that if not under warranty that repair turnaround was at least 8
weeks. I just talked to them last week about my MP. I have a an
intermittent with the DSP which I believe to be is the 66.666 crystal. I
decided to order one and fix it myself. I called them a week after the
order and it had still not gone out though they showed it in stock. So you
can't get parts either. The last time I sent my MP in was about 18 months
ago. It had a bad BPF and the turnaround was 9 weeks and only then because
I called them and hounded them about it. I like my MP, but if ICOM had an
equivilent, I would have an ICOM. My experience with their repair
department has always been great and no more than 2 weeks.
