[1000mp] Mp "Lock Up" - No Buttons Work

Dear FT1000 Reflectors:

I have an MP circa 1997 which, out of the blue, locked
up - all buttons do not work nor beep except "fast"
which does both.  I cannot get into the menu system,
nor change bands through band buttons.  It will
receive and xmit, though, and the main tuning knob
works.

I called Yaesu tech support.  They think it may be:

a. a processor problem, or
b. a battery problem.

Owing to an 8 week wait, I ask:  Has anyone ever heard
of or had this problem?  (Master CPU reset does not
cure.)  If so, what was the cure?
