[Yaesu] FT-817 battery questions

Hello Gents,
I have a used ft-817 and it seems to be missing some internal battery contacts but I'm not really sure what they are or look like. I expect to see a holder for the eight batteries that would have springs for the negative battery end and hard contacts for the positive end, like we are used to, but there are none in the compartment! What should be there is missing.
The rig came with some sort of "Added" battery holder for over sized batteries and no compartment cover. I didn't realize at the time, that this was not stock and after getting the replacement cover, started to see what was wrong/goofed up.
The service manual blow up doesn't show the inside of the battery compartment, so I have no definite idea what is missing. 
Can someone who has one of these rigs please contact me off list so we can discuss this? I can send pics of what I have, (don't have), and would like to see what is really missing.
