The 990 I don't know but there are three resets for the FT-857, each has 
different actions. The super master reset also resets all the factory 
alignment settings like band by band RX and TX gains so its a really bad 
idea to do that reset. It might be beneficial to access that alignment 
menu with the help of the technical supplement and with a list of 
average settings to see if they have changed. Such things might be on 
mods.dk as there might be discussions of similar problems. One download

It could be that snow atatic did some damage to the transmitter, like 
the relay, the tuner, or the SWR diodes. More than a few Tentecs have 
had problems with static taking out the diodes in the SWR section.
