[Yaesu] Yaesu 1500

Could be any one of several things in the radio. Could be a broken 
connector, could be a bad wire or circuit board trace, a bad capacitor 
or resistor, or a bad setting in the software alignment menu or a bad 
user setting if the radio is that new. Could be its been reset and the 
reset set the microphone gain to zero. Its quite possible the touch 
tones and the audio use separate modulators or at least the touch tones 
go through the control processor so they can be used to run the radio 
when not transmitting. Check for PL tone, it also can have a separate 
modulation input. I haven't ever looked at the manual, but if the audio 
is used to modulate the phase locked loop error voltage as some radios 
have done it might be that the modulation is sensitive to the programmed 
frequency. It could be there's a hardware pot for setting modulation and 
its lost contact due to environmental issues.
