Later information leads me to believe that the VFO knob can't be turned.
If that is the case, then it is for all practical purposes certain that
the encoder has died catastrophically and must be replaced. Yaesu *may*
still have replacement parts, or you may wind up buying from somewhere
else. I seem to recall some discussion of this in the past 5 years or
so, but can't remember who might have been able to provide parts or if
they were exact replacements. Some adaptation may be required.
