Ok, thanks!  Now i see the battery.  No the reset pad is not shorted and the 
radio retains its memory if you turn the radio off with its power switch 
before you disconnect power.  If you disconnect power with the radio on it 
looses it's memories.

Also, i see that the battery is just diode isolated from the keep alive line 
to the processor, so its not a switching problem or otherwise its 
instantaneous backup with a couple diodes.
