You _may_ be able to scrape the insulation off each end for a short
distance and solder them together *very* *quickly*. This will be bad for
the flexibility of the cable, but it also may work. If parts aren't
available from Vertex, that may be a workable alternative. Ditto for
scraping the insulation and soldering wires across the break. Others may
have other suggestions, which I'd love to see.
