Sorry, I thought stating carrier null would infer transmit...receive 
works fine on all modes.

The position of rotation where the erratic tuning occurs does not 
change. I've never had this radio apart so I have no idea as to how the 
encoder is configured. Based on other comments it looks like I'll have 
the rig apart to attempt cleaning of the encoder wheel.
