[Yaesu] Problem with FT-980

Hi David,
I seem to remember this problem with one of my FT-980s. I made some notes at the time but they are in the UK (as are the rigs) and I'm in VK currently, so I'm trusting to memory here. Not the most reliable source I'm afraid!!
I too thought that the PSU had gone haywire but empirical testing proved me otherwise as the voltages were OK. However, during my prodding around with the meter probes, the problem dissappeared! I'd disturbed a dodgy solder joint of yesteryear on one of the PCBs. Now, my notes will tell me more (like which PCB it was) so I'm hoping that you're not now biting the desktop in anticipation of information that I cannot give you. All I'm trying to say, is that you might not have a catastrophic failure and you might be able to remove a board or two and exmaine for dull looking solder joints. If you're good with a soldering iron, have a go - but remember static precautions of course. I *think* that the dodgy joint was on one of the top PCBs within the rig....
BTW, I don't use the relay box at all, don't use an amplifier, nor have made any modifications at all to the rig - I've no idea if this makes a difference to the fault finding!
All the best & good hunting!
